For many years, physicians have struggled with capturing treatment outcomes. Currently, scientists interested in outcomes research are exploring patient-centered outcome measures. We believe this is an appropriate emphasis for the assessment of quality of life disorders, because it is the patient’s perspective that drives decisions about further treatment (or other contact with the medical field). The term EGGS has been coined to facilitate communication about patient-centered treatment outcomes—E expectations, G goal setting, G goal achievement, S satisfaction—because we believe that these are the key phenomena that need to be assessed. …
