In CSF und Blut-Plasma von Erwachsenen zeigt ein CSF/Plasma-Quotient von 2,3–14,6 höhere Cys-C-Konzentrationen [Cys C] in CSF von 3,2–12,5 mg/L an und niedrigere [Cys C] in Plasma von 0,63–2,25 mg/L, was eine Cys-C-Bildung im Zentralnervensystem indiziert: Kulturen von Choroid-Plexus, Neuronen und leptomeningealen Zellen von Nagetieren synthetisieren Cys C in vitro.
