Definition

Protein-C-Inhibitor ist ein Serpin, das sulphatierte Glykosaminoglykane (SGAG) bindet und neben aktiviertem Protein C (PCa) auch Urokinase inaktiviert.

Beschreibung

Protein-C-Inhibitor (52-kDa-Glykoprotein) bindet SGAG, Phospholipide und das Vitamin-A-Derivat „Retinoic Acid“. Das Prostataprodukt PCI ermöglicht männliche Fruchtbarkeit; PCI inaktiviert PCa, aber seine genaue physiologische/pathophysiologische Bedeutung ist noch unklar, weswegen es bislang keine Routineteste für PCI gibt. Diskutiert wird die Inaktivierung von Thrombin durch PCI, allerdings ist nur Heparin-aktiviertes Antithrombin-3 ein Sofortinaktivator von Thrombinaktivität. PCI kann von Zellen aufgenommen und zum Zellkern transportiert werden. Der N-Terminus von PCI ist ein Zell-penetrierendes Peptid (Phosphatidylethanolamin = Kofaktor).
