The Annals of Surgical Oncology continues to be a valuable resource to physicians caring for surgical patients with cancer. Each year the scientific values of medical journals are compiled by the Institute for Scientific Information and expressed as Impact Factors. This Impact Factor is based on the frequency with which an original scientific article is cited in other journals and is a putative indicator of journal quality. The more times a scientific article from a journal is cited, the greater the impact and stature of the journal. In 2004, the Annals of Surgical Oncology was cited 3727 times, and the Impact Factor increased to 4.035. The Annals is ranked fourth among 139 surgery (Table 1) and 28th among 123 oncology (Table 2) journals. In 2003, the Annals was cited 2734 times, with an Impact Factor of 3.574, which placed the journal as seventh among 141 surgery and 33rd among 118 oncology journals. The Editorial Board is grateful to the authors who continue to support the journal by submitting high-quality work that is frequently cited by others.
