Stand der Forschung und künftige Herausforderungen

Zusammenfassung

Essstörungen zählen zu den häufigen psychischen Erkrankungen in der Adoleszenz und im jungen Erwachsenenalter. Während die Prävalenzraten von Essstörungen in der 2. Hälfte des letzten Jahrhunderts stark zugenommen hatten, sind die Zahlen in den letzten 20 Jahren eher stabil geblieben. Essstörungen werden im ICD-10 in die diagnostischen Kategorien Anorexia nervosa, Bulimia nervosa sowie atypische bzw. nicht näher bezeichnete Essstörungen unterteilt. An der Ätiologie sind genetische Faktoren, vor allem bei der Anorexia nervosa, sowie psychologische und soziokulturelle Faktoren beteiligt. Evidenzbasierte Empfehlungen können bislang für die Behandlung der Bulimia nervosa und der Binge-Eating-Störung gegeben werden. Hier gilt die kognitive Verhaltenstherapie als Mittel der Wahl. Der Kenntnisstand zur Therapie der Anorexia nervosa hingegen ist noch recht begrenzt, vor allem hinsichtlich wirksamer Therapiemethoden bei Erwachsenen. Die bisherige Datenlage liefert lediglich Evidenz für die Wirksamkeit von Familientherapie bei Jugendlichen. Aufgrund des Mangels an qualitativ hochwertigen Studien stellt insbesondere die Therapieforschung zu Anorexia nervosa eine künftige Herausforderung dar.
