Foreign accent syndrome (FAS) is a rare speech disorder characterized by accent change which perceived by listeners as a foreign accent. Although many cases have been described, it remains a poorly understood condition. The commonly reported etiologies of FAS including stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis (MS), vasculitis, primary neurodegenerative disorder, brain tumor, and mental disorders [1‐3]. The lesions in the FAS patients are typically located in the supratentorial left hemisphere, generally involving the primary motor cortex and premotor cortex, and/or the basal ganglia [1]. Right or bilateral hemisphere and infratentorial regions also have been reported in a small number of cases [1]. To our knowledge, there is no report that FAS is secondary to viral encephalitis. Therefore, we report a case of FAS following herpes simplex encephalitis, and expect to promote the study of FAS. …
