Whereas type 2 diabetes (T2D) is characterized by insulin resistance, type 1 diabetes (T1D) is defined by autoimmune-mediated β cell destruction resulting in insulin deficiency. Acknowledgement that asymptomatic β cell autoimmunity precedes clinical presentation has led to recognition of stages of T1D. Stage 1 is defined by islet cell autoimmunity with normoglycemia. In Stage 2, patients progress to asymptomatic dysglycemia, followed by symptomatic hyperglycemia in Stage 3 [
1]. In addition to β cell autoimmunity, patients with T1D and obesity have insulin resistance [
