Genetic testing and counseling are important elements of comprehensive breast cancer care. Both positive and negative results have implications for patients diagnosed with cancer, unaffected mutation carriers, and untested family members. It is currently estimated that approximately 5–10% of all breast cancers are due to genetic mutations.
