Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), which is associated with obesity, family history of GDM, older maternal age, and polycystic ovary syndrome, affects 8.3% of pregnancies worldwide. The prevalence in the United States is estimated to be 3–4% annually affecting 110,000 women [1]. Periodontal diseases, comprising of periodontitis and gingivitis, affects about 65 million (47%) adults 30 years and older and about 6% of women of reproductive age in the United States [2]. …
