Global Burden of Disease data show that the Philippines had among the greatest increase in age-standardized colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence (181.9%) and mortality (139.8%) from 1990 to 2017 among 195 countries.¹ While worldwide CRC incidence rates have declined, early-onset CRC (EOCRC, defined as diagnosis under age 50 years) has increased in Southeast Asian countries,² especially the Philippines. Despite the increase in EOCRC incidence from 4.2 per 100,000 in 1990 to 5.7 per 100,000 in 2017,¹ prevention and screening are largely inadequate amidst subsidized treatment. …
