Limbic encephalitis (LE) is rarely associated with the presence of anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase antibodies (anti-GAD Ab). This type of LE is usually not paraneoplastic and occurs in young women [
1]. Isolated seizures are often the first sign of the disease and may become refractory to the treatment [
2]. Anti-GAD Ab are also associated with stiff person syndromes, cerebellar ataxia and epilepsy [
3]. In all these neurological disorders, high serum titers of anti-GAD Ab (>1,000 U/mL) are observed, in contrast to lower titers observed in about 80 % of patients with type 1 diabetes (<1,000 U/mL) [
