The guidelines on severe community-acquired pneumonia (sCAP) endorsed by the European Respiratory Society (ERS), the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and the Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), and Latin American Thoracic Association (ALAT) are the first international guidelines to address sCAP where recommendations related to diagnosis, antibiotics, organ support, biomarkers and co-adjuvant therapy were issued. sCAP poses a significant burden on low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) being one of the main causes of mortality in adults, as indicated by data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study [
