Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICCA) is the second most common liver cancer (following hepatocellular cancer), accounting for 5–10% of all liver cancers.1 The incidence continues to rise in the US and worldwide and can be attributed to increased utility of cross-sectional imaging.2‐4 Surgical resection remains the only curative intent modality for this disease. Only 10–40% of patients are considered candidates for surgical resection, and 5 year survival rates are poor (25–40%) despite R0 resection.5‐8 This corroborates that despite optimal treatment and surgical resection with negative margins, ICCA continues to have an aggressive clinical course, natural history, and tumor biology.9‐12 …
