Abstract
The pillars of surgery stand on some remarkable work done and passed down by many stalwart Indian surgeons. Though we learn about them off and on, there is no place in India which showcases the ground breaking work done by them. There is an urgent need to conceptualise and build a surgical museum in India just like similar ones in Edinburgh and England. The pioneering work of Sushruta, Al-Zahrawi, Antia, G.Balakrishnan, M.S.Valiathan etc. should be immortalised in them. It would be a matter of pride for the country and an eye opener for young trainee surgeons to understand the rich surgical heritage of this country.
