Zusammenfassung

Hintergrund

Unter Armutsbedingungen ist eine adäquate Kinderernährung besonders schwierig. Richtlinien für die Ernährung wurden deshalb unter der Führung der World Health Organization (WHO) auf der Basis von Studien und unter Beteiligung vieler Experten entwickelt. Die Richtlinien betreffen alle gesunden Neugeborenen, Säuglinge und Kleinkinder sowie spezielle Gruppen mit besonderem Risiko wie Neugeborene mit niedrigem Geburtsgewicht, Kinder mit schwerer Unterernährung und Kinder mit einer HIV-infizierten Mutter.

Ziel der Arbeit

Ein besseres Verständnis der Situation in den armen Ländern der Welt ist wichtig, um politische Prozesse zu ermöglichen, die auch für Kinder in diesen Ländern ein Leben ohne Unterernährung sicherstellen.

Material und Ergebnisse

Praxisrelevante Empfehlungen und Leitlinien für die Ernährung gesunder und kranker Kinder unter Armutsbedingungen werden vorgestellt.

Schlussfolgerung

In Anbetracht zahlreicher, nur teilweise bisher gut verstandener Interaktionen zwischen Ernährung, Immunabwehr, Infektionen und Heilungsprozessen ist die Berücksichtigung von Ernährung bei der Betreuung gesunder und kranker Kinder eine Voraussetzung für erfolgreiches (Be-)Handeln.
