Zusammenfassung

Erkrankungen des Herz-Kreislauf-Systems sind für ungefähr 50% der Todesfälle in den westlichen Industrienationen verantwortlich. Körperliche Inaktivität gilt als ein bedeutsamer kardiovaskulärer Risikofaktor. Die vorliegende Arbeit gibt einen Überblick über die aktuellen Studien, die sich mit dem Stellenwert mangelnder körperlicher Aktivität als Risikofaktor für das Auftreten kardiovaskulärer Erkrankungen befassen. Dabei wird auch darauf eingegangen, wie Umfang und Intensität der körperlichen Aktivität, das Alter, der späte Beginn der körperlichen Aktivität und der Body-Mass-Index den Zusammenhang zwischen körperlicher Aktivität und kardiovaskulären Erkrankungen beeinflussen.
