In their article,
Inam et al. describe the cultural barriers facing female surgeons seeking to pursue a career in surgical specialties in Pakistan [
1]. Surveying 100 surgical faculty and trainees, more female surgeons found that cultural barriers persisted for their gender, notably by being discouraged by their loved ones and by having to be responsible for household matters. These findings are important to better inform contextually relevant gender-based policies in surgical specialties in Pakistan and other low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), as proportionally more female medical students express interest in pursuing careers in surgery [
