Part of the book series: Research Advances in Alcohol and Drug Problems ((AADP,volume 8))

Abstract

This chapter presents an overview of the measurement of alcohol consumption in general population surveys. Throughout the literature on alcohol, various aspects of the subject have been treated, most often in connection with reports on empirical survey studies. Specific studies include those of Mäkela (1971), Pernanen (1974), and Duffy (1982) among others. In recent years discussion has concentrated on the validity of survey results, especially on the coverage problem as discussed below.
