Zusammenfassung
Wenn von Nebenwirkungen die Rede ist, sind in der Regel unerwünschte Wirkungen therapeutischer Maßnahmen, insbesondere von Arzneimitteln und Medizinprodukten gemeint. Neben den unerwünschten Wirkungen gibt es durchaus therapeutisch erwünschte Begleitwirkungen von Medikamenten neben einer meist im Vordergrund stehenden Hauptwirkung. Aus diesen Überlegungen wird klar, dass der Begriff Nebenwirkung (side effect) in seiner Bedeutung unscharf ist und daher aus pharmakologischer Sicht soweit möglich vermieden werden sollte. Im Folgenden werden eine Auswahl wichtiger Definitionen und Abgrenzungsmöglichkeiten erläutert.
