Zusammenfassung
Die Fotobiologie untersucht die komplexen Auswirkungen der Sonnenstrahlung auf biologische Systeme. Der Haut kommt als Grenzorgan zu unserer Umwelt eine ganz besondere Rolle zu. Der Prozentsatz der Dermatosen, deren Entstehung direkt oder indirekt mit der Sonnenstrahlung zusammenhängt, ist groß. Daraus hat sich das Gebiet der Fotodermatologie entwickelt, die als Grundlagenwissenschaft und als klinische Spezialität mit der Fotodiagnostik (Lichtdiagnostik) und der Fototherapie (Lichttherapie) in den letzten Jahren an Bedeutung gewonnen hat. Akute und chronische Hautreaktionen, die mit der Sonnenstrahlung zusammenhängen, reichen vom Sonnenbrand über fototoxische und Fotoallergische Erkrankungen bis zu den benignen und malignen chronischen Lichtschäden der Haut (Elastose, Basalzellkarzinome, spinozelluläre Karzinome und zum Teil Melanome).
