Summary

We report about experiences in the use of human red cell acid phosphatase polymorphism in cases of disputed paternity. In this connexion we answer the question, whether this system can be recognized as fully conclusive for excluding paternity. At first we discuss two different opinions about the number of families (unquestioned motherchild pairs or father-mother-child combinations) to be found in unexceptional agreement with the predicted mode of inheritance of the serological system in order to make the system applicable to exclusion of paternity with a required degree of reliability.

TheY/X-values of the so-called Essen-Möller method are tabulated for the system of red cell acid phosphatase according to the gene frequencies observed by the authors in a sample of the population of South-Western Germany. In the appendix formulae for the probability of paternity exclusion in a serological system determined by an autosomal locus with two or more alleles without dominance are derived and the general computing scheme for theY/X-values of Essen-Möller method is given.
