Summary
Meningoencephalocoeles of the pterion are very rare (4 of 419 cases of meningoencephalocoele), and raise problems of diagnosis and genesis.
The authors report 4 successfully operated patients. From their experience they recommend that these lesions should be operated at an early date in view of their rapid and progressive enlargement, which results in monstrous deformities of the head and neuro-psychical disturbances.
The immediate and late results are favourable.
