Summary

Gastric lipoma, a rare tumor, is important because it frequently produces massive gastrointestinal hemorrhage and may simulate carcinoma. At least 157 cases, 76 of these reported in English, have been recorded in the world literature. No instance of malignant degeneration has been reported. An additional case is reported here and the previously described cases are reviewed in terms of their relative frequency of symptoms, pathologic characteristics, and radiologic appearance.
