Abstract

Cyperus esculentus(Cyperaceae) is a very variable species. From a large group of wild, mainly weedy plants, a cultivated group often named chufa, can be segregated by tuber color, reluctance to flower, and short rhizomes. Cultivar status within Cyperus esculentus is proposed for this useful plant.
