What do people with low and high(er) social status have to say about health promotion?
This is a paper on socioeconomic health differences. It is based on life world accounts of how people with a lower and with a higher social status look at ‘health’ and health promotion. These accounts demonstrate that people on the lower end of the social ladder have a host of problems to deal with on a daily basis that precludes much attention to healthy living. The paper argues for a two tier health policy: direct behavioural interventions primarily at those who are receptive to them and help others with an improvement of living conditions.
Keywords: socioeconomic health differences, health promotion, qualitative research
