Zusammenfassung

Der diagnostischen Erkennung und Behandlung von depressiven Störungen kommt auch in der internistischen Praxis eine herausragende Bedeutung zu. Depressionen zählen zu den häufigsten, mit einer hohen psychiatrischen und somatischen Gesamtmorbidität und psychosozialen Behinderung assoziierten Erkrankungen in der Bevölkerung. In einer Übersicht werden grundlegende epidemiologische, diagnostische, pharmako- und psychotherapeutische Aspekte als Voraussetzungen für eine erfolgreiche primärärztliche Versorgung dieser wichtigen Patientengruppe behandelt.
