Zusammenfassung

Während sich in den Industrienationen die Inzidenz des Zervixkarzinoms seit Jahren rückläufig zeigt, ist die durch eine persistierende HPV(humane Papillomaviren)-Infektion ausgelöste Erkrankung in Schwellen- und Entwicklungsländern nach wie vor sehr häufig. Durch ein effektives Screening mittels Abstrichzytologie gelingt meist die Diagnose einer Vorstufe bzw. des Frühstadiums eines invasiven Karzinoms. In frühen Stadien ist die Möglichkeit eines Organerhalts gegeben. In den letzten Jahren verschiebt sich der Trend bei der fortgeschrittenen Erkrankung weg von der radikalen Operation gefolgt von einer adjuvanten Radiochemotherapie hin zu einer alleinigen Radiochemotherapie. Im gleichen Maße hat allerdings die Wertigkeit des operativen Stagings zugenommen. Die metastasierte Erkrankung ist immer noch mit einer sehr ungünstigen Prognose verbunden, allerdings konnten in den vergangenen Jahren auch hier Fortschritte bei der medikamentösen Therapie erzielt werden.
