Port Site Recurrences Following Laparoscopic Liver Resection for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

We commend Martin RC 2nd and colleagues on their very well-done review comparing outcomes between laparoscopic (LLR) and open liver resection (OLR) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) [
1]. In brief, in keeping with the newest worldwide results, their study confirmed similar perioperative outcomes for both types of surgical approach, including reduction in blood loss, postoperative morbidity, and hospital stay for LLR [
1]. However, we would like to know from the authors whether such a positive trend in favor of LLR could meet with a standstill up to inversion in the light of a specific complication, the port site recurrence: in 2015, in fact, this theoretical event has finally come true. …
