Lebensqualität bei Seheinschränkung im Alter: Das Beispiel altersabhängige Makuladegeneration

Zusammenfassung

Die altersabhängige Makuladegeration (AMD) besitzt erhebliche Auswirkungen auf die psychosoziale Lebensqualität. Die mittlerweile recht umfassend vorliegende Forschungsliteratur hierzu zeigt beispielsweise eine Erhöhung der Depressionsrate sowie substanzielle Verluste in Alltagskompetenzen bei AMD-Patienten. Allerdings sind die interindividuellen Unterschiede in diesen Auswirkungen groß, und ein Teil der Erklärung dafür liegt im unterschiedlichen Umgang mit Bindungen an bzw. Lösungen von Lebenszielen. Der mit den negativen Lebensqualitätsauswirkungen einhergehende psychosoziale Unterstützungsbedarf wird allerdings bislang kaum gedeckt. Dabei zeigen eine Reihe von Studien, dass erfolgreiche Interventionen selbst bei hochaltrigen Patienten möglich sind. An dieser Stelle besteht heute weniger ein Erkenntnis-, denn ein Umsetzungs- und Implementierungsproblem.
