Fistulas between the digestive and respiratory tracts are usually congenital, traumatic, or neoplastic in origin. Non-traumatic benign esophagorespiratory fistula in adults is a rare condition (a rate of malignant to benign of 5:1 [
1]) that can be associated to severe pulmonary complications like lung abscesses [
2] and even fatal outcomes [
3]. Although several cases of esophagorespiratory fistula through a diverticulum were published, they commonly represent middle thoracic diverticula. This is the first report, as far as we know, of an esophagopulmonary fistula through an epiphrenic diverticulum. …
