Abstract
Purpose of Review
The purpose of this review was to examine the definition of cannabis use disorder (CUD) and recent findings regarding the risks for developing CUD and the associated outcomes.
Recent Findings
Frequent use of cannabis, use of other substances, and mental health disorders are associated with CUD. Although few individuals seek treatment, addressing CUD is associated with improved health outcomes and quality of life.
Summary
Public health officials and policymakers need to be aware of the potential consequences of more permissive cannabis use policies and to take the appropriate intervention and prevention actions to improve overall health and social outcomes.
