Mycotic aortic aneurysm due to clostridium septicum and diverticulitis
2022, Annals of Vascular Surgery - Brief Reports and InnovationsClostridium septicum aortitis with associated sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma
2012, Annals of Vascular SurgeryCitation Excerpt :The spores germinate preferentially in the environment provided by a rapidly growing colonic tumor.1 As the tumor ulcerates through the colonic mucosa, the bacteria are provided with a portal for systemic dissemination and hematogenous seeding of remote structures, including in the atheromatous plaques within the abdominal aorta or onto a preexisting abdominal aortic aneurysm.9 Subsequent weakening of the aortic wall can result in the formation of a mycotic aneurysm or cause an aortic dissection.8
