PGE2 vs PGF2α in human parturition
2021, PlacentaCitation Excerpt :COX-1 and COX-2 protein levels are however similar despite the COX-2 mRNA level being about 100 fold higher than COX-1 at term in the human amnion [58,59]. More importantly, COX-2 but not COX-1 levels further increase in the amnion and chorion during labor [60–63]. Consistently, COX-2 appears more important than COX-1 in infection-induced labor even in the mouse since specific inhibition of COX-2 can prevent endotoxin-induced preterm labor [10].

2010, American Journal of Obstetrics and GynecologyCitation Excerpt :The expression of prostaglandin endoperoxidase synthase 2 gene (PTGS2), also known as cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2), was also increased in chorion from the site of membrane rupture when compared with chorion from the site away from rupture (validated by qRT-PCR). PTGS2 may be regulated by nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) and is produced predominantly in amnion at term90-92 and significantly increased in labor.93 Our microarray results do not demonstrate increased PTGS2 expression in the amnion at the site of rupture when compared with amnion at the site away from rupture; however, the increase in the chorion at the site of rupture suggests that the prostaglandin biosynthesis pathway may be subject to a spatial regulation (amnion vs chorion).
