    A significant increase was found in the intermolar distance of patients with AOB, which suggests that a low tongue position in these patients leads to a higher transversal development of the lower arch than that of the upper arch. Peat [21] concluded that patients with AOB show a narrow maxillary arch and a wide mandibular arch. Furthermore, Ballanti et al. [20] found that the jaw of patients with AOB shows skeletal narrowness at the gonial and condylar levels, but the dentoalveolar region shows a width that is possibly associated with a low tongue position in these patients.
