Palatal configuration in Class II Division 1 malocclusion: A longitudinal study
2010, American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial OrthopedicsTransverse skeletal and dentoalveolar changes during growth
2006, American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial OrthopedicsCitation Excerpt :We are unaware of any other longitudinal growth studies reporting alveolar process transverse changes measured from either the lateral aspect of the alveolar process (buccal surface to buccal surface) or the medial aspect of the alveolar process (palatal surface to palatal surface or lingual surface to lingual surface) for both the maxilla and the mandible. Knott48 reported an increase in palatal width from ages 5 to 17 years in untreated females. Our finding of 4.94 mm is similar, considering that our study did not extend to an earlier age when rapid growth in width occurs.
