Possible involvement of nitrergic and opioidergic systems in the modulatory effect of acute chloroquine treatment on pentylenetetrazol induced convulsions in mice
2016, Brain Research BulletinCitation Excerpt :In order to define this phenomenon, both expression and activity of the enzymes which are involved in NO metabolism could be assessed in future studies. Opioidergic system activation exerts anti/proconvulsive effects in various models of seizures (Foote and Gale, 1984; Lauretti et al., 1994). Low doses of morphine could exert anticonvulsant effect but at the higher doses, exacerbation of neuronal excitation was observed (Foote and Gale, 1983; Lauretti et al., 1994).
Hippocampal orexin receptors inactivation reduces PTZ induced seizures of male rats
2015, Pharmacology Biochemistry and BehaviorCitation Excerpt :Some animals were chosen randomly, sacrificed quickly after behavioral tests and their brain cut in 40 μm slices to ensure the placement of the injection cannula in both hippocampi. The model was conducted in rats based on the previously reported method (Foote and Gale, 1984; Mandhane et al., 2007) with some modification. PTZ (25 mg/ml, i.v.) dissolved in saline was infused with a constant rate (0.5 ml/min) using a syringe pump (WPI instruments, USA) connected with a polyethylene tube and heparinized needle inside the tail lateral vein.
