Mucosal Disorders with Oral Epithelial Dysplasia risk - Development of a simple screening tool for general health care setting
2012, Oral OncologyCitation Excerpt :Oral cancer poses a heavy burden to the health care delivery system, because of high mortality and morbidity and huge expenses incurred for treatment modalities of advanced cases. Oral cancer is often preceded by so-called ‘premalignancy’ or ‘precancer’,10 characterized by visible changes in oral mucosa, which allows clinicians to detect and treat effectively early intra epithelial stages of oral carcinogenesis. A recent workshop conducted by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Oral Cancer and Precancer in London has recommended the term ‘Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders’ (OPMD).14
