Thirty-three studies (23% of the total) concerned the clinical management of care: some described specific aspects of midwifery care and others tested the efficacy of care measures or tried to measure differences when care was provided in new ways (16–48). A midwife was the lead or sole investigator on all but two of these studies, and only one had no midwife investigator.
