Effect of interrupting free healthcare for children: Drawing lessons at the critical moment of national scale-up in Burkina Faso
2017, Social Science and MedicineCitation Excerpt :Pre-existing tensions between a village (or some communities within the village) and the nearest health facility may be exacerbated by the withdrawal of free healthcare. Studies in Burkina Faso and Congo have suggested that such tensions between communities and health personnel strongly influence the demand for care (Haddad et al., 2009; Haddad and Fournier, 1995). The perceived quality of care and the presence of leaders among health personnel have also enabled a better understanding of the heterogeneous responses of health facilities to previous interventions (Belaid and Ridde, 2015; Haddad et al., 2009).
