Open dorsal distal interphalangeal joint dislocations: A report of 20 cases
2021, Orthopaedics and Traumatology: Surgery and ResearchCitation Excerpt :Irreducible dislocations need open reduction with or without Kirschner fixation [14,15]. The reasons for irreducible dislocations are buttonhole tear through the volar plate, flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) entrapment behind middle phalanx condyle, volar plate avulsion and interposition into the DIP joint, middle phalanx entrapment into a longitudinal split of FDP tendon [5,13]. Open dislocations of the DIP joint are rare.
Irreducible dorsal dislocation of the distal interphalangeal joint
2008, Injury ExtraCitation Excerpt :Nevertheless, there are several reports of dorsal dislocation of the DIP joint.1,2,4–10 However, this injury in which the distal end of the middle phalanx became entrapped in a longitudinal split in the FDP tendon is extremely rare, and, to our knowledge, has only been reported once.4 We encountered a case demonstrating this rare pattern.
