Masao Sato received a BS, MS, and PhD from the Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. He has interests in zinc, copper, cadmium, metallothionen, lipid peroxidation, and oxidative stress. He is an associate professor at the Fukushima Medical College.

Ian Bremmer received a BS and PhD from the University of Aberdeen, Scotlandm. His main research interests are in the study of trace element interactions and in the role of metallothionein in the control of copper and zinc metabolism. He is the Deputy Director of the Rowett Research Institute. He received the Underwood Memorial Prize in 1989 and was awarded the degree of DSc from the University of Aberdeen in 1984.
