Abstract

Yohimbine is an α2-adrenoreceptor antagonist that has been popularized in various supplements and is often mixed with other ingredients. Its ingestion results in a hyperadrenergic state. There are limited studies of yohimbine use for weight loss, metabolic change, and athletic performance. There is no definitive benefit for the enhancement of performance or net positive metabolic effects. Its effect must be regarded mainly as a stimulant and toxicity should be avoided with higher doses.
