2018, Neuromuscular DisordersCitation Excerpt :The careful electrocardiographic analysis of P-wave duration and morphology in DM1 population with conserved cardiac systolic function and without atrial structural abnormalities offered an interesting clinical opportunity to exclude the influence of left atrial enlargement and possible comorbidities on the evaluation of the interatrial conduction time and to better investigate the role of interatrial block in the onset of atrial fibrillation. The IAB prevalence in our DM1 cohort was 31.4%, confirming the high prevalence of this electrocardiographic entity, previously shown in general population [26–28]. In DM1 group who showed paroxysmal atrial fibrillation during follow-up period the occurrence of interatrial block was significantly higher than in DM1 group without AF (83.3% vs 13.4%).
