Median raphe cyst of the penis in children
2020, Journal of Pediatric Surgery Case ReportsCitation Excerpt :There are 2 main proposed explanations: As the genital or urethral folds fuse in the midline to form the median raphe of the scrotum and penis, there is incomplete closure leading to epithelial rests (tissue trappings) which develop into a cyst or canaliform MRCs [17,28,29]. Another explanation is that MRCs develop from outgrowths of embryonic epithelium after the genital/urethral folds have fused [28–30]. From histopathology point of view, our patient's cyst consisted of an inner lining of pseudostratified columnar epithelium (urethral subtype).
