2022, Journal of Pediatric Surgery Case ReportsCitation Excerpt :Surgical procedures used in reported cases were various, and none of them were proved to be the best procedure due to the rare entity of these conditions. Some reported cases did resection of the affected pulmonary segment, while other cases did the minimally invasive thoracoscopic procedure and tracheobronchial reconstruction to preserve the respiratory function of the affected side, in our case after discussion with multi-disciplinary teams we elect to go for limited posterior thoracotomy as the patient has hypoplastic nonereated lung [7,8]. Based on reported cases in the literature the prognosis is considered good and most of the affected patients survived, although there is an associated risk of developing esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in those who were untreated [11].

Post-pneumonectomy syndrome occurs because of rotation of the heart and mediastinal shift to the side of the pneumonectomy, and this leads to obstruction of the large airways and blood vessels, which may lead to respiratory failure, dyspnea, and stridor.
