Practicing surgeons encounter a variety of soft-tissue infections, most of them minor. However, some patients with necrotizing soft-tissue sepsis initially may have minimal symptoms, masking a severe deep infection. Treatment includes broad spectrum antibiotics, early surgical debridement of all necrotic tissue, and a planned second-look operation. A high index of suspicion is necessary to minimize morbidity and mortality.
