Cytotoxicity and the Effect of Temperature on Physical Properties and Chemical Composition of a New Calcium Silicate–based Root Canal Sealer
2020, Journal of EndodonticsCitation Excerpt :For a better understanding of the effect of high temperature during warm vertical obturation, the thermal profile during warm vertical compaction has been studied. Blum et al22 reported that the maximal temperature in the canal was 118°C 8 mm from the apex. At 0–2 mm from the apical terminus, the maximum temperature was only 44°C.

2015, Journal of EndodonticsCitation Excerpt :Two internal, as-of-yet not peer-reviewed, published investigations (21, 22) have shown noticeable variations between the preset value and the temperatures emitted by the heat carriers of the Touch'n Heat (Sybron Endo, Orange, CA), SystemB (Sybron Endo), BeeFill (VDW, Munich, Germany) (also distributed as Calamus in some countries), and Elements Obturation Unit. Different authors (10, 20, 23) have reported similar temperature inconsistencies with the Touch'n Heat and System B units. The warm-up phase of the heat carrier begins immediately after the handpiece is activated; however, an intermittent operation switch prevents overheating of the heat carrier interrupting the heating cycle after the handpiece has been continuously activated for 4 seconds.
Influence of cyclic heating on physical property and biocompatibility of α- and β-form gutta-percha
2014, Journal of the Formosan Medical AssociationCitation Excerpt :The high flowability, low viscosity, and tacky properties of α-form gutta-percha may benefit the facility of thermoplasticized gutta-percha techniques. However, even existing in α-form, gutta-percha is a restricted thermal conductor naturally, having difficulty in transmitting heat from the coronal to apical third in the canal.9,10 Accordingly, the common feature of all thermoplasticized gutta-percha techniques is heating the gutta-percha to an extremely high temperature, such as 200°C to 400°C, for ensuring homogeneous melting of the bulk gutta-percha materials.
