2022, Travel Medicine and Infectious DiseaseCitation Excerpt :A positive thrombocyte auto-antibody measurement and normal thrombopoietin level confirmed immune-mediated thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) triggered by ZVI [5]. After the initially published case report of ZVI-related thrombocytopenia complicated by bleeding [4,5], more cases and case series with severe thrombocytopenia were reported in the peer-reviewed literature. With some insight into the underlying pathophysiology gained, several clinical management options are described in these cases, including watchful waiting, platelet transfusion, corticosteroid therapy and administration of IVIG.
