2022, Veterinary Clinics of North America - Equine PracticeCitation Excerpt :AKI is defined by one or more of the following: (1) increased serum creatinine of 0.3 mg/dL or greater within 48 hours, (2) increased serum creatinine 1.5 times baseline or more within 7 days, or (3) oliguria of 6 hours duration in the face of adequate hydration status.23 The term AKI has clinical implications when evaluated over time and with clinical judgment but without this information it may not tell us much about the degree of kidney injury or function.23 In addition, oliguria may not be readily detected in horses with AKI due to difficulty in quantitating urine production.
