    Citation Excerpt :

Legionella sp. are intracellular pathogens that infect macrophages, e.g., alveolar macrophages (AM). Legionella sp. are routinely susceptible to macrolides, tetracyclines, TMP-SMX, tigecycline, rifampin and quinolones.11–16 For optimal therapeutic effectiveness, the antibiotic selected to treat LD should have a high degree of Legionella sp. activity and penetrate alveolar macrophages in therapeutic concentrations.
